In 2023, the Wolter family decided to take over their parents’ house and renovate it with great attention to detail. The question of how the house should be heated in future soon arose. From a sustainability perspective and with long-term economic considerations in mind, the choice quickly fell on a geothermal system. Two DA32X3.0 mm duplex probes were installed at a depth of 80 m. The energy generated in this way is sufficient to heat the 170 m² house sustainably and cost-effectively for future generations.

As part of an energy-efficiency refurbishment of a rural apartment block, two DA32X3.0 mm double-U geothermal probes were installed at a depth of 120 metres. The geothermal energy extracted in this way is used to heat the building and supply it with hot water. The geothermal probes were installed in two days; the drill cuttings generated could be left on site using an innovative filtration process, thereby avoiding disposal costs. The building is thus heated sustainably using renewable energy. During hot summer months, the system can also be used to cool the building.

The A10 and A24 motorways between the Pankow junction (AD) and the Neuruppin slip road (AS) are among the busiest stretches in the Berlin metropolitan area. They are being upgraded and resurfaced in less than five years whilst remaining open to traffic, in order to cope with future traffic volumes. The A10, which has previously been a four-lane motorway between the Havelland and Pankow junctions, will be widened to six lanes over a stretch of approximately 30 km. This will simultaneously eliminate a bottleneck on the Berlin motorway ring road, which has caused numerous traffic disruptions in the past.

The four-lane, approximately 30 km long section of the A24 between the Neuruppin and Kremmen junctions is being completely renewed. The hard shoulders will be widened so that sections can be temporarily opened if necessary, depending on traffic volumes.

Havelland Autobahn GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for the planning, construction and subsequent operation. Construction began in March 2018, with completion scheduled for December 2022.

As part of the construction work, new cable protection conduits for power and data cables are being laid parallel to the motorway. The PE-HD cable protection conduits are being laid in stages, so careful advance planning was necessary to ensure compliance with the construction schedule.

The choice of pipe material and design was a key factor in achieving rapid installation with as few joints as possible.

Following in-depth consultation with Hundhausen Kunststofftechnik GmbH, the client opted for PE-HD cable protection pipes supplied on reels. This minimised the number of joints, and the daily installation rate, with some margin to spare, fitted within the construction schedule. To minimise any ovality in the supplied DA110 x 6.3 mm pipe in SR17.6, the dimensions of the steel reels used were optimised and the production parameters adjusted. The proper storage of the material on site played a key role in this.

To date, Hundhausen Kunststofftechnik GmbH has supplied 36,000 m of pipe in the dimensions DA110 x 10.0 mm, 58,000 m of pipe with dimensions DA110 x 6.3 mm on steel drums of 400 m each, and 90,000 m of pipe with dimensions 50 x 4.6 mm on steel drums of 2,500 m each.

In 2019 and 2020, over 2.7 million metres of cable protection conduit in the dimensions 32×2.9, 40×3.7 and 50×4.6 from Hundhausen were installed.
