The A10 freeway and the A24 freeway between the Pankow interchange and the Neuruppin junction are among the busiest routes in the Berlin capital region. They will be expanded or renewed in less than five years without interrupting traffic in order to cope with future traffic volumes. The previously four-lane A10 between the Havelland and Pankow junctions will be widened to six lanes over a length of around 30 km. This will also remove a bottleneck in the Berlin ring road, which has led to many traffic disruptions in the past.
The four-lane, approx. 30 km long section of the A24 between the Neuruppin junction and the Kremmen junction will be completely renewed. The hard shoulders will be widened so that sections can be temporarily opened if necessary, depending on the volume of traffic.
Havelland Autobahn GmbH & Co KG is responsible for the planning, construction and subsequent operation. Construction began in March 2018 and the planned completion date is December 2022.
During the construction work, new cable conduits for power and data cables will be laid parallel to the highway. The PE-HD cable protection pipes are being laid step by step, so careful advance planning was necessary to ensure that the construction schedule could be adhered to.
The choice of pipe material and design was a key factor in ensuring that the pipes could be laid quickly with as few joints as possible.
Following intensive consultation with Hundhausen Kunststofftechnik GmbH, the client opted for PE-HD cable protection pipes on drums. This minimized the number of joints and the daily laying rate fitted into the construction planning with reserves. The dimensions of the steel drums used were optimized and the production parameters adjusted in order to avoid ovalities in the supplied DA110 X 6.3mm pipe in SR17.6 as far as possible. The professional storage of the material on the construction site played an important role in this.
So far, Hundhausen Kunststofftechnik GmbH has supplied 36,000m of DA110 X 10.0mm pipe, 58,000m of DA110 X 6.3mm pipe on 400m steel drums and 90,000m of 50mm pipe on 50mm steel drums.000m of 50 X 4.6mm pipe on 2,500m steel drums.
The early involvement and subsequent close project support are the key to the successful implementation of the construction project. Hundhausen Kunststofftechnik GmbH was able to contribute over 50 years of experience in plastics processing and play a part in the success of the project.
